Primary Function: activates the cAMP/protein kinase A pathway signalling the testes to produce testosterone and sperm
Secondary Functions: promoting angiogenesis (new blood vessel growth) in the uterus, modulating the immune system to prevent rejection of the fetus, supporting the growth and differentiation of fetal organs and the umbilical cord, and being used as a tumor marker for specific cancers.
